Ministry of Interior Investigates Powerful Figures Behind Drug Imports to Cambodia

Battambang: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior Sar Sokha, announced that authorities are now investigating the powerful individuals behind drug imports into Cambodia. This statement followed new clues that indicate influential figures are involved in the illegal activity.

Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha made these remarks during the Closing Ceremony of the Theoretical and Practical Training Course for Drug Addicts at the Drug Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Ke Sinuon District, Rattanak Mondul District, Battambang Province, on the morning of July 4, 2024. He revealed that the Ministry of Interior's investigation into a case involving the import of 20 kg of drugs by a Nigerian national uncovered connections with certain individuals in Phnom Penh. These individuals allegedly operated under the guise of fun clubs and included some high-level leaders.

"Well, now we are doing the opposite," Sar Sokha asserted. "Anyone who trespasses must be found and especially punished according to the law."

In addition, Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha instructed authorities to intensify their crackdown on entertainment businesses that facilitate drug use.
